Maxxed is our first pick for roulette players. It has a 5,000+ game lobby, takes BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL and LTC, and runs its sportsbook on the same balance. Whichever site you choose, check the wheel type and the inside limits on each table before you stake.
Offshore roulette is often sold on the wrong promise. The studios, dealers and wheels are largely the ones British casinos stream; the real differences are the table ceilings and the account checks sitting behind them.
One choice outweighs the casino you pick, and it costs nothing to get right: the number of zeros on the wheel.

Start by counting the zeros
There are three wheels in common use, and each one fixes the house edge before the casino has any say. If you only check one thing at a roulette table, check this.
The arithmetic is short. A single number pays 35 to 1. A European wheel has 37 pockets, so a fair price would be 36 to 1, and the missing unit (one in 37, or 2.70%) is the house edge. An American wheel adds a second zero, making 38 pockets for the same 35 to 1 payout, and the edge almost doubles.
| Wheel type | Number of pockets | Edge on numbers | Edge on red/black and similar |
|---|---|---|---|
| French, la partage rule | 37 | 2.70% | 1.35% |
| European | 37 | 2.70% | 2.70% |
| American | 38 | 5.26% | 5.26% |
Why la partage matters. Under this rule a zero costs you only half of an even-money bet. That halves the edge on red or black, odd or even and high or low to 1.35%, which leaves it among the cheapest bets in a casino after blackjack played to basic strategy. En prison works out the same for these bets.
Why roulette was never part of the UK stake cap
Many people searching this term believe a British site would limit them to a few pounds a spin on the wheel. That limit exists for online slots. Roulette, whether streamed live or generated by RNG, was never brought under it.
What does slow a British roulette player down is a pair of different controls. The first is the maximum each operator sets on each table. The second is the affordability framework attached to the account.
Since 27 February 2025, UK-licensed operators have run a light financial vulnerability check once net deposits reach £150 over a rolling 30 days. Further up, financial risk assessments at £5,000 within 24 hours were confirmed for a staged rollout from 7 July 2026. Neither caps a bet. Both can pause an account mid-session, and neither applies offshore. Our affordability checks guide lists what each one asks for.
A fairer way to describe it. Offshore roulette is less supervised, and that is where the higher ceilings come from. The game, the wheel and the payouts follow the same rules on both sides of the border.
Big limits on a double-zero wheel
If you remember one section of this page, make it this one.
Offshore lobbies stock American wheels much more often than UK lobbies, because many of their customers are in markets where double zero is normal. A table with a five-figure maximum is a poor deal on an American wheel: you have paid with a doubled edge for a limit you may never use.
Try a session of 300 spins at £10 on even-money bets, which is £3,000 staked. With la partage on a French table the expected loss is about £40. On a European table it is £81. On an American table it rises to about £158. The player, the stake and the evening are identical, and the wheel alone accounts for the gap.
- Look at the green pockets. One means European or French. Two means American, and you can move on.
- Search the rules for la partage or en prison. Tables that use either usually print it on the layout.
- Only compare ceilings between good wheels. The limit is a convenience; the wheel is where the cost sits.
Lightning Roulette's multipliers and who pays for them
Evolution's Lightning Roulette is the table most offshore lobbies put first, so it helps to know how the multipliers are funded.
Each round, between one and five numbers are struck and given multipliers that usually range from 50× to 500×. To pay for them, a straight-up bet on a number that was not struck returns 29 to 1 rather than 35 to 1. That brings the published return on straight-up bets to roughly 97.10%, compared with 97.30% on a regular European table.
A fifth of a percentage point is a modest price, and plenty of players think the game is worth it. The bigger change is the rhythm: you lose a touch more often in exchange for an occasional very large win. If your aim is to make a bankroll last, that trade works against you.
Outside bets are left alone. Red or black, odd or even, dozens and columns pay their usual odds on a Lightning table and keep the standard 97.30% return. If those are your bets, the Lightning version costs you nothing extra.
Inside limits, outside limits
An advertised table maximum rarely applies to every bet. Casinos set limits per bet type according to what each one could cost them.
£10,000 on red risks £10,000 of the house's money. £10,000 on a single number risks £350,000. For that reason a single-number maximum on the same table is usually a small slice of the headline figure, often only hundreds of pounds while red or black takes five figures.
Players who chase high limits are often number bettors, which means the advertised figure is the one they cannot use. Every live table has a limits panel. Open it and read the inside figures.
- Inside limits cover straight-up, split, street and corner bets. These are the ones that matter if you play numbers.
- Outside limits cover red or black, dozens and columns. They are always the largest and are the ones quoted in promotions.
- Private and VIP tables are opened by deposit history or an account manager. The public lobby maximum does not tell you the whole site's ceiling.
Low stakes: RNG tables and Auto Roulette
The live tables get the attention, but the RNG roulette one tab over is cheaper to run and often the better fit.
With no studio, dealer or video feed to pay for, RNG tables commonly accept 10p or 20p a spin. A standard live table usually starts at 50p or £1 and a VIP table often at £5 or above. The odds are identical: same wheel, same 2.70% on a European layout. Our 20p roulette guide covers the format UK players know from bookmaker terminals.
Auto Roulette sits in the middle. A real wheel spins with the ball launched by air, filmed with no croupier, on a cycle of around 25 seconds and with minimums near RNG levels. If it is the physical wheel you want rather than the host, this is often the best-value table available.
The downsides of an offshore roulette account
The table itself is not where the risk sits. Evolution and Pragmatic Play stream the same rooms to offshore and British operators alike. The differences are in the account wrapped around the table, and you should weigh them before you deposit.
- Withdrawals can be reversed. British-licensed sites stopped offering this years ago; offshore it is common. A pending cash-out can be cancelled back to your balance, so send winnings to a wallet that takes some effort to reach.
- GamStop does not reach these sites. How GamStop works explains the scheme. If you registered because gambling had become a problem, keep the exclusion in place; GamCare offers free support on 0808 8020 133.
- There is no ombudsman. A UK operator belongs to an approved dispute service with the Commission behind it. Offshore, your complaint is handled by the casino first and its regulator after that.
- Checks come at cash-out. Offshore casinos usually verify when you withdraw. Read KYC at offshore casinos before a balance is waiting.
- A VPN can cost you the balance. Where a casino's terms exclude your country, connecting through a VPN is commonly treated as grounds to close the account and keep the funds. Our VPN page quotes the usual clauses.
A one-minute table check
- Count the green pockets and leave any table with two.
- Look for la partage or en prison if you bet on even-money chances.
- Check the inside maximum in the limits panel.
- On a Lightning table, accept the 29 to 1 straight-up payout deliberately, or stick to outside bets.
- Compare minimums: Auto Roulette gives you a real wheel close to RNG prices.
- Read the operator's withdrawal terms and our rating method before you deposit.
